A great alternative to Sikhi To The Max today I bring you Search Gurbani Desktop Version. A Java application for searching, displaying, and exploring the Guru Granth Sahib. From the website:
Search Gurbani Desktop Version (SGDV) brings to you a unique and comprehensive approach to explore and experience the word of God. We have the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji , Amrit Keertan Gutka and Bhai Gurdaas Vaaran and Sri Dasam Granth Sahib in entireity. You can explore these scriptures page by page or search for a keyword in either one or all of the scriptures.
The application is also designed for use in a Gurdwara like setting to help the sangat follow along with the Raagi. It displays the Gurmukhi line along with Romanization and English translation text.
A good option for non-windows users or people on other java-enabled platforms. It works sufficiently well and definetly meets it’s goal of providing something to put up for the sangat to follow along. I will add the download files to the downloads section soon, but all the relevant and up-to-date files are available on the SGDV website
Today I give to you a wonderful book by Bhupinder Singh Holland entitled “How Europe Is Indebted to the Sikhs?” In this book Bhupinder Singh outlines the large number of sacrifices and deeds done by sikhs in the last few hundred years that have influenced, shaped, and saved Europe and specific European countries.
At about 200 pages, this book is a very quick and fast read, most Sikhs and people knowledgeable about Sikhism reading it can skip straight to the 7th chapter, as the beginning of the book is a brief summary of who and what sikhs are.
From time to time, someone will come to me looking for advice. Recently a good friend of mine apprached with some questions regarding how she could ensure her privacy online, and how she can keep “private” things posted online to places like Facebook, Myspace, and her own website restricted to only the people she wanted.
Unfortunately the short answer is that there is really no such thing as keeping things posted online private. Once you publish something to the world wide web, the best advice I can give is to assume that EVERYONE can see it. Yes, even your private facebook profile may be deemed “relevant” in a lawsuit and made public. If you don’t want someone to know something, simply don’t post it online.
There are plenty of ways for your content to be made public from other places, and while I won’t go into all of them here, let me just say that these methods are well known and easy to use.
Let me reiterate – DONT put anything online you wouldn’t want everyone you know to be aware of!
Going around the web browsing various Sikh and Punjabi websites you run into a lot of different Punjabi fonts used all over the place. To that end I’ve put together this fontpack of all the various Punjabi (and Punjabi-ish) fonts that one would regularly run into around the web. Download link, File list , and some advice after the break.

Wishing Everyone a Happy Nanakshahi New Years! GURU CHARDHI KALA Bakhshey!!
I think today would be the perfect day to launch my website/blog/random idea site so here it is! On this site I hope to regularly post lots of cool stuff, so make sure to check back regularly!
Often throughout the web you can be browsing and you run into a blog or personal website that hasn’t been updated in years, despite the fact that it showed some great potential to become a really cool site. Also browsing around you see a lot of cool Sikhi-related things that you bookmark, only to find at a later date that the site no longer exists and the cool file/link/picture/download or whatever you liked is nowhere to be found.
To that end I hope to start and maintain the SikhNerd Sikh Resource Archive where I will keep a copy of all the cool stuff I think is worth saving and archiving forever. If you have some suggestions for things worth saving/mirroring/archiving please shoot me an email – sra @ sikhnerd.com
